From print on demand to bulk

Print on demand removes stock risk; bulk orders lower the cost per piece. The move makes sense when a design sells predictably enough that holding stock costs less than the margin you gain.

01

Signs it is time

  • A design sells steadily every week, not just after a launch or promotion.
  • Customers ask for colors, techniques or blanks your POD provider does not offer.
  • Per-order production cost is eating most of your margin.
  • You can store stock and ship it, or use a fulfillment service.
02

Test before you commit

Order samples from two or three print shops on the same brief. Start with a small run of your best-selling sizes and colors, keep print on demand running for the rest, and track sell-through before reordering.

03

Who ships the orders?

With bulk stock you need someone to ship each order: yourself, a fulfillment warehouse, or a print shop that holds stock for you. Some suppliers offer this; their profiles say so when they state it.
