How it works

How print on demand works.

Choose this when
  • You want to sell designs without buying or storing inventory.
  • You are testing designs, colors or a new market before committing to a batch.
  • Your orders arrive one or two items at a time from an online store or marketplace.
  1. Connect your store

Most providers connect to Shopify, Etsy, TikTok Shop or similar, or accept orders through an API or upload.

  2. They print each order

When a customer buys, the provider prints that item, usually with DTG, DTF, sublimation or embroidery.

  3. They ship to your customer

The parcel goes directly to your customer, often with your packing slip or labels for an extra charge.

Before you order

Check these first.

  1. 01

Where they print and where they ship, since that sets delivery times and duties.

  2. 02

The full cost per order: garment, print, shipping and any branding extras.

  3. 03

How they handle misprints, returns and lost parcels.

A few useful answers

Questions about print on demand.

Is print on demand more expensive per item?

Usually yes. You pay more per piece than in a batch order because each item is made on its own, in exchange for no inventory and no minimum. Many sellers start with print on demand and move proven designs to a print shop later.

Can a print-on-demand provider use my own labels?

Many offer branded packing slips, inside neck labels or custom packaging, usually for an extra charge. Each profile notes what the provider says it offers.

What is the difference between a POD network and a print provider?

A network routes your orders to several printing facilities, sometimes run by other companies. A print provider prints the order in its own facility. Profiles say which kind each business is, when that is known.
